Product Lifecycle Management

At the Institute for Virtual Product Development, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) means the product-related and enterprise-wide information management. PLM covers planning, controlling and organization of the necessary processes for generation and administration of all data, documents and resources in a products lifecycle. For this reason, all persons which are necessary for solving a specific problem are involved - no matter for which company they are working or where they are on the world.

Most important features of PLM:

  • Support of the whole product lifecycle especially the early phases of engineering (Front Loading)
  • Product-related and enterprise-wide information management
  • Administration of the Product Records (= all relevant product information) over the whole product lifecycle
  • Support of Cross Enterprise Collaboration
  • Consideration of all planning, controlling, organization and necessary processes
  • Involving of all persons which are necessary for solving a specific problem - no matter for which company they are working or where they are on the world
